In 1964, the groovy and Swinging London singer Sandie Shaw had her first No.1 on the U.K singles charts with “(There’s) Always Some Thing There To Remind Me”. The song was originally recorded by Soul singer Lou Johnson in the Summer of 1964 after Shaw’s manager returned from a trip in the U.S where he had heard the song, Sandie recorded it and it was released in September, only a couple of months after Lou’s original version. Sandie Shaw’s version of the song became one of the most popular, mainly in Europe, however, it failed to best Lou Johnson’s, in the U.S, despite reaching Top 10 in Detroit and Miami, overall it reached No.52 on the Hot 100, while Johnson’s reached No.49. “(There’s) Always Some Thing There To Remind Me”, penned by the songwriting team Burt Bacharach and Hal David, has been covered extensively after it by numerous artists including Dionne Warwick who recorded the first version of the song for a demo in 1963. Sandie Shaw went on to become a big Pop star during the late 1960’s, especially in Europe and after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967 representing the U.K with “Puppet On A String”, her signature song. Sandie’s performance on Eurovision was widely commented, as for the first time the U.K won and a singer performed on barefoot, Sandie’s strongest trademark.
