Sad news according to a source close to the singer who spoke to the Associated Press on Monday
Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin reportedly very sick and struggling
Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin is very sick and her death is “imminent,” according to a source close to the singer who spoke to the Associated Press on Monday to confirm that Franklin is “seriously ill, although they did not provide any additional details as to the severity or the cause of the 76-year-old singer’s illness. According to another source close to Franklin, those in the singer’s circle were told two weeks ago that “she could go any time” and that her weight was down to 85 lb. Another source also told the outlet that Franklin has been battling cancer, a rumor that has existed for many years, which the singer has previously chosen not to address. The Queen of Soul previously announced in February of 2017 that she was retiring from music. Despite her failing health in recent years, Franklin returned to the stage last August for a performance at the Mann Center in Philadelphia, despite noticeable changes in her appearance that caused concern about her well-being. She also sang at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Enduring Vision benefit gala in November 2017. Several singers and celebrities already reacted on Twiter to the sad news, including Chaka Khan, Mariah Carey and Missy Elliott
Aretha Franklin was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. She rose to prominence during the 1960’s with hits such as “Respect” and “I Say A Little Prayer”, being pivotal in bringing Soul music to the mainstream. A living legend, she has influenced generations of singers and even broke the Soul domain during the 1980’s when she recorded the No.1 Pop hit in duet with George Michael, “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)” in 1987. Let’s all say a “little prayer” for the Queen of Soul and may she recovers and give us more music.
