In 1966 with “Sunshine Superman”Donovan reaches number 1 on Hot 100 for the first and last time

Scottish Psychedelic Folk singer Donovan reached for the first and only time number 1 in the Hot 100 U.S charts with the song “Sunshine Superman” (written for his future wife Linda Lawrence) on September 3rd, 1966. The song, included the album with the same name, it’s now considered one of the 60’s seminal Psychedelic songs and featured future Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page on guitar, back then a member of The Yardbyrds. It’s also a turning point for Donovan’s music style that until then was mostly Folk with songs like “Catch The Wind”,his fusion of Folk with Psychedelia in “Sunshine Superman” influenced other musicians to do the same. Following that song, Donovan had a string of hits throughout the late 60’s such as “Season Of The Witch”, “Mellow Yellow”, “Wear Your Love Like Heaven”, “Jennifer Juniper”, “Hurdy Gurdy Man” and “Atlantis” but he’d never reached number 1 in the U.S again.
