R.E.M. gets their first Top 10 Hit in 1987 with “The One I Love”

During the 1980’s R.E.M. gained a small cult following inside the Alternative and Indie music circuit. That period saw the band releasing some of their best songs and albums that would later shape their early 1990’s big popularity on future albums such as “Out Of Time” and “Automatic For The People”, but despite existing since 1979 and having released already five albums, the band only got their real taste of success in 1987 when on November 28th their song “The One I Love” reached the Hot 100 Top 10. The song it’s regarded as one of the pioneering songs that shaped R.E.M’s classic sound, it was included on their album “Document” and produced by Scott Litt and the band.
