On this day in 2012 Whitney Houston passed away at age 48
Born on August 9, 1963 om Newark, New Jersey, Whitney Houston, singer, actress, producer, and model, was considered in 2009 by the Guinness World Records cited her as the most awarded female act of all time with 200 million records sold worldwide.She released seven studio albums and two soundtrack albums, all of which have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold certification. Houston’s crossover appeal on the popular music charts, as well as her prominence on MTV, starting with her video for “How Will I Know”. She is the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 songs, and, the second artist behind Elton John and the only woman to have two number-one Billboard 200 Album awards on the Billboard magazine year-end charts. Houston made her screen acting debut as Rachel Marron in the romantic thriller film “The Bodyguard” (1992). She performed the lead single from the film’s original soundtrack, “I Will Always Love You”, which received the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became the best-selling single by a woman in music history. With the soundtrack, which received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1994, Houston became the first act (solo or group, male or female) to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week period. Houston scored an impressive string of several hit songs during her career such as “Saving All My Love for You”, “Greatest Love of All”, “I Have Nothing”, “I Will Always Love You”, “Run To You”, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”, “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”, “I Learned from the Best”, “Could I Have This Kiss Forever”(duet with Enrique Iglesias), “If I Told You That” (Duet with George Michael), “My Love Is Your Love”, “I’m Every Woman”, “I’m Your Baby Tonight” , “So Emotional”, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay”. On February 11, 2012, Houston, that had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction during several years, was found dead in her guest room at the Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills, California aged only 48. The official coroner’s report showed that she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors.
