Miss Diana Ross turns 75 years old
She’s a timeless diva, one of the most successful singers and performers of all time and with a career that has spanned for more than 50 years. Diana Ross was born on March 26, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. She rose to fame during the early 1960’s as the lead singer of the Motown vocal group The Supremes. The group became the most successful act coming from Motown and remain the best charting girl group in U.S music history. During the 1960’s The Supremes produced a string of memorable and timeless classics including “Where Did Our Love Go”, “Baby Love”, “Stop! In the Name of Love”, “You Can’t Hurry Love”, “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” and “Reflections”, among many others. In 1970 Ross departed from The Supremes and that same year released her debut album “Ross” that included the hits “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)” and the No.1 “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. She maintained a very successful solo career throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, producing worldwide hits such as “Upside Down”, “I’m Coming Out”, “Endless Love” or “Chain Reaction”. She was also part of the charity band U.S.A For Africa with the hit “We Are The World” in 1985. Ross also ventured into acting and won a Golden Globe Award aswell as an Academy Award nomination for her 1972 performance in the movie “Lady Sings The Blues” based on the life of jazz icon Billie Holiday. The diva is a 12-time Grammy nominee and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. She was also inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, as member of the Supremes. With a career that doesn’t shows signs to slow down or stop, Diana Ross celebrates today 75 years old.
