We salute Angus Young on his 64th birthday with a Top 10 AC/DC songs

One of the most influential guitarists of all time, the Rock and Heavy Metal legend Angus Young was born on March 31, 1955, in Glasgow, Scotland. After his family moved to Australia, at age 18 he co-founded AC/DC with his brother Malcolm Young. With the charismatic Bon Scott in charge of the vocals, AC/DC quickly rose to international success during the mid-1970’s. The band released a string of classic Hard Rock albums that still sound fresh to this day, generating many, many unforgettable Rock hits. Their debut, “High Voltage” was released in 1975 and it was followed by “T.N.T”.,” Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”, “Let There Be Rock” and “Powerage”. Angus’s persona on stage, wearing the schoolboy uniform, along with his heavy and electrifying guitar riffs from his Gibson SG, became the band’s main trademark image. In 1979, AC/DC released “Highway To Hell”, an instant classic that remains to this day one of the best Hard Rock and Heavy Metal albums that were ever released. The album gave AC/DC a much bigger visibility worldwide and during this period their fan-base increased immensely. In 1980 tragedy struck the band when lead singer Bon Scott died at age 32. His replacement was Brian Johnson who delivered the vocals to a now re-formed AC/DC line up. The same year, they released another strong album and another classic, “Back In Black”, proving that was one of the few bands who could go on without the original lead singer, this is a rare situation in Rock music for any band, especially when it’s replacing a member and singer so charismatic such as Bon Scott was. Throughout the 1980’s AC/DC career had ups and downs, but they did what is called one of Rock music biggest comebacks in 1990 with the album “The Razors Edge” that included the smash hit “Thunderstruck”. This was the right moment for AC/DC to be back on the top of the charts as the music industry was shifting and Rock music was once again the best selling genre in the world after a very 1980’s Pop flavored decade. AC/DC kept having line up changes during the 1990’s and 2000’s, but they also became one of the biggest live acts in the world, touring extensively and selling out shows everywhere in the world. But in recent years, AC/DC suffered seriously hard blows that might dictate the end of the band. Original drummer Phill Rudd, who first left the band in 1983 and returned in 1994, was fired in 2015 due to a scandal involving drugs and attempted murder charges, The following year, 2016, lead singer Brian Johnson who side by side to Angus represented the image of the band since 1980, was also asked to leave after health problems with his hearing, that prevented him to temporally tour, he was replaced by Axl Rose that is regarded as the band’s new lead singer. The same year, bass player Cliff Williams also left the band after the conclusion of the Rock Or Burst World Tour. Finally In 2017, Malcolm Young, who already had stepped away from the band due to having a serious health problem, suffering from Dementia, passed away at age 64. Currently, Angus Young remains the only original member of AC/DC, there has been much speculation if the band will continue or not, but so far no official sources have disclosed that information yet. What we know for sure is the importance that Angus Young and AC/DC had for Rock music and Pop culture worldwide, their contributions have been so many and their influence is so strong that the legacy will surely go on for years to come. We’ve put up together 10 of AC/DC’s best songs to celebrate the 64th Birthday of Angus Young. For those about to Rock, We salute you.
