Charlie Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889 in London, England.Through his screen persona, “The Tramp” aka “Charlot”, Chaplin became a worldwide icon, remaining to this day perhaps the most important figure of the silent movie era and one of it’s first absolute stars. Chaplin is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry, with a career that spanned more than 75 years, from childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977 at age 88. Throughout his career, Chaplin starred in dozens of movies, but the ones that remain it’s most popular ones are undoubtedly the comedies, either being simply silly comedies or sarcastic, smart and critical, as in “The Great Dictator”.
