One of the most popular TV series over the last two decades, “Sex and the City”, created by Darren Star, first premiered on June 6, 1998. The show, which is set and filmed in New York City and was based on Candance Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name, broadcast on HBO from 1998 until 2004, with a total of 94 episodes. It was a worldwide TV hit, that to this day still airs on continuous re-runs. “Sex and the City” follows the lives of a group of four New York City women, three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties, that despite the ever life changing events (specially sex life events), remain a close and confident group. Throughout the six seasons that the show lasted, there were several characters introduced into the story line, often played by popular actors such as Kyle MacLachlan, but the main cast, always remained the four women: Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, Charlotte York, played by Kristin Davis and Miranda Hobbes, played by Cynthia Nixon. The series always focused mainly on the romantic and sexual lives of these four women, but also, on occasion touched subjects such as cancer, abuse and domestic violence. The success of “Sex and the City” spawned two feature films, “Sex and the City” in 2008 and “Sex and the City 2” in 2010. It also spawned a prequel television series “The Carrie Diaries”, based on Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, airing from 2013 to 2014. During it’s original broadcast, awards included seven of its 54 Emmy Award nominations, eight of its 24 Golden Globe Award nominations, and three of its 11 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
