Singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry turns 78
Born in Woodland, Mississippi on July 27, 1942, during the late 1960’s she scored memorable hits such as “Ode to Billie Joe” and “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again”, that became Pop music hits despite Gentry’s association with Country music. “Ode to Billie Joe”, released in 1967, spent four weeks at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold over three million copies all over the world.Her 6th album “Fancy”, released in 1970 brought her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Bobbie Gentry lost interest in performing and in her music career overall during the late 1970’s, despite the initial success she had. Today, the former singer-songwriter reportedly lives in self reclusion in a private gated community outside Memphis, Tennessee.
