The popular song was written for the movie “Desperately Seeking Susan”
In 1985 Madonna peaks to No.1 in the UK for the first time with “Into The Groove”
“Into the Groove” was written and produced by Madonna and her then-boyfriend Stephen Bray for the 1985 film “Desperately Seeking Susan”, starring herself and Rosanna Arquette. In some countries outside the U.S, the song was included on the re-issue of her 1984 album “Like A Virgin”; it was released on July 23, 1985 as the album’s third single. Madonna has stated that her inspiration for the song was the dance floor, and she wrote it while watching a handsome Puerto Rican man, across her balcony. The single proved to be a commercial and critical success with contemporary music critics as well as authors, calling it “Madonna’s first great single”. Reaching the top of the charts worldwide, it was Madonna’s first ever single to peak to No.1 on the UK charts, on August 3, 1985. However, in the U.S, the song was released as the B-Side for “Angel”, and therefore it was ineligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 according to the rules at the time. But by the end of the 1980’s, “Into the Groove” was honored by Billboard magazine as the Dance Single of the Decade. Madonna performed the song during her set on Live Aid in 1985. She also performed it on several of her tours: the Virgin Tour (1985), the Who’s That Girl World Tour (1987), the Blond Ambition World Tour (1990), the Re-Invention World Tour (2004), the Sticky & Sweet Tour (2008–09), and the Rebel Heart Tour (2015–16).
