Remembering Jim Diamond
Jim Diamond was born on September 28th, 1951 in Glasgow, Scotland, though not a familiar name for many North Americans, he had major hits in Europe, Australia and South America during the 1980’s including a No.1 in the U.K. Diamond begun his career in the late 1960’s but it wasn’t until the 1970’s that he became active within the Rock scene by playing in bands such as Bandit that included future AC/DC band member Cliff Williams. In the late 1970’s he moved to Los Angeles, California to form Slick Diamond with Earl Slick, during the early 1980’s he formed PhD, a new wave band that had some success and chart hits, but it wasn’t until he started his solo career that he started to become a known name. In 1984 with “I Should Have Known Better”, his most memorable song, he reaches No.1 in the U.K and charts in other countries in Europe and Australia. In 1985 Diamond also scored another hit in Europe with “Remember I Love You”.Diamond also scored another hit in Europe with “Remember I Love You” in 1985 and was also featured as a vocalist on the charity No.1’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with The Crowd and “Let It Be” with Ferry Aid. His last UK chart success was with “Young Love (Carry Me Away)” in 1986. Despite having achieved this successful period in his career between 1984 and 1986, he would never experienced it again. Jim Diamond passed away during his sleep on October 8th, 2015 from a pulmonary edema.
