Despite the intentional lack of promotion or marketing, “Praying For Time” turned out to be one of the singer’s greatest hits
George Michael’s “Praying For Time” goes No.1 on the U.S Hot 100 in 1990
George Michael’s second solo album was not of an easy birth, but in 1990 it finally was released and the first single “Praying For Time” went No.1 on the U.S Hot 100 making it his 9th No.1 single, however, would be the last one making to the top position in the U.S. “Praying For Time” it’s George Michael’s first political motivated single, the lyrics are more mature than what people were used to hear from him during the 1980’s, but despite the success of the song, the promotion for it didn’t featured any George Michael photos, it was a stand the singer was taking against not only his former self but also his label back then. Michael, that did some of the 1980’s most iconic music videos both solo and with Wham!, made a still black and white music video with nothing but the lyrics of the song, but despite that it didn’t affected it’s airplay on MTV, the single also didn’t featured anything else than the color black and the name of the song and artist. The song remains one of George Michael’s greatest hits, and it’s now regarded as a 90’s classic.
