A leap of faith
Revisiting “Quantum Leap”: Sam Beckett’s adventures through time
“Quantum Leap” started in the late 1980’s, during a period where TV Series didn’t got to go as far in seasons as nowadays but made it to 5 with the total duration of 97 episodes. The fascinating time travel adventures of scientist Sam Beckett, portrayed by Scott Bakula, that accidentally gets stuck in a time limbo that forces him to jump, literally, into the bodies of different persons through out the years in order to correct mistakes that were made in the past, however he cannot cross the time line on which his own life begin and stands, meaning he cannot go back further than his birthday and cannot jump into the future neither. For those who love time travel subjects, this is essential to watch. The majority of the episodes follow separate plots with Sam along with his scientist friend and guide Al Calavicci (Dean Stockwell) as the only constant, so even when you already watched the whole series, you can always go back and watch a random episode cause most episodes tells a different story with different characters (or you can even grab a random one to sample the series), “Quantum Leap” is a show that you can watch over and over again without getting tired of it. The series didn’t aged all that bad, maybe because most of the action takes place in the past (mainly during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s), featuring many cultural references of the 20th century. There are for example episodes where Sam crosses paths with a young Stephen King or Michael Jackson as a child, where he “lands” among the crowd of Beatles fans during the Beatlemania in New York, where The Beatles are set to play Ed Sullivan between so many more. Originally aired between 1989 and 1993, the series had a closure, however, fans are still waiting for it to be turn into a movie or even better, a reboot of the series, with some luck maybe with Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell still playing their roles. The complete series are available on DVD.
