The legendary movie director Martin Scorsese, widely regarded as one of the most significant and influential filmmakers in cinematic history, was born in Queens, New York on November 17, 1942 and since the 1970’s that he has presented the world with memorable film masterpieces. Scorsese’s body of work explores such themes as the Italian-American community and identity, Roman Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption, machismo, modern crime, and gang conflict and several other hot topics. Throughout his career he has been awarded with an Academy Award, a Palme d’Or, Cannes Film Festival Best Director Award, Silver Lion, Grammy Award, Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Directors Guild of America Awards. In recent years, Scorsese, has been also focused on the making of Rock music documentaries, including “No Direction Home” (2005), The Rolling Stones’ “Shine a Light” (2008), “George Harrison: Living in the Material World” (2011), and “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese” (2019). Also notable has been his recent collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio, whom he directed in five films, beginning with “Gangs of New York” (2002) and most recently “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013).
