The British filmmaker Alan Parker, born in London, England on February 14, 1944, begun his career in his late teens as a copywriter and later a director of TV advertisements. He came to prominence during the 1970’s with memorable films such as the 1978 Midnight Express. Throughout his career, Parker has made films of several different genres, from musicals, such as Fame or Pink Floyd – The Wall, horror, Angel Heart, to true drama stories such as the acclaimed Mississippi Burning. His films have won nineteen BAFTA awards, ten Golden Globes and six Academy Awards and he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his services to the British film industry, knighted in 2002.  Parker, passed away on August 1st in London, England following a lengthy illness.
