“Great Balls of Fire” by Jerry Lee Lewis was released on November 3rd 1957 on Sun Records, the song became one of the biggest Rock N’ Roll classics and a staple for Jerry Lee Lewis. Written by Otis Blackwell and Jack Hammer, it sold one million copies in its first 10 days of release in the United States and sold over five million copies, making it both one of the best-selling singles in the United States, as well as one of the world’s best-selling singles of all time. It was also featured in a performance by Jerry Lee Lewis and his band in the 1957 Warner Brothers rock and roll film Jamboree, which also featured Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Buddy Knox, and Dick Clark. This was Jerry Lee’s second big hit in less than a year, being the first “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” and established him as Rock N’ Roll star. 60 years later, The Killer Jerry Lee Lewis still plays the song live on occasional concerts and it remains a solid classic.
