The band was born from the ashes of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship
Starship goes No.1 on the Hot 100 with “We Built This City” in 1985
Born from the ashes of the 1960’s Psychedelic Rock greats Jefferson Airplane and from Jefferson Starship, the band Starship music was opposite worlds away from it’s previous incarnations, although still lead vocally by the talented Grace Slick, unlike Jefferson Airplane enduring music, Starship songs got caught in the 1980’s period of Synth pop extravaganza and didn’t quite stood up to the test of time. Despite it, they made some memorable 1980’s songs that everyone knows and still remembers. On November 16th 1985, Starship started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with “We Built This City”. It became a big hit worldwide during the 1980’s but still not highly regarded musically as for example “White Rabbit” or “Somebody To Love”. Aside of “We Built This City”, Starship scored more hits during that decade with “Sarah” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” in 1987.
