The original tapes were erased by BBC but in 2015 a 8mm film was found featuring the performance

On March 25, 1964, at the height of Beatlemania, BBC broadcasts The Beatles debut on Top Of The Pops, the popular TV show, where the band mimed “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “You Can’t Do That”. The performance was filmed 6 days earlier, on March 19 at the BBC’s Television Theater (now Shepherd’s Bush Empire) in west London. Sadly, as it happened with many Top Of The Pops performances from the 1960’s, BBC erased the performance by reusing the tapes in other shows as it was common back then. Other famously erased performances by BBC are those of The Doors and Jimi Hendrix among others. However, thanks to Beatlemania, a dedicated fan caught the performance through a 8mm film camera pointed at the TV screen back when it was originally broadcast. The performance, thought lost, was found in 2015 and it’s available on YouTube for everyone to watch it.
