Kretz co-wrote the 1992 Alternative Rock hit “Plush”
The Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz turns 55 today
Eric Kretz was born on June 7, 1966, in San Jose, California. One of the most popular and discreet Rock drummers, he came to prominence during the 1990’s as a member of the Stone Temple Pilots. But despite his low profile he has contributed to the band’s songwriting, most notably writing the music to the band’s 1996 hit “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart” and along with lead vocalist Scott Weiland, he also wrote the lyrics to the Grammy Award-winning Stone Temple Pilots 1992 hit “Plush”. The Stone Temple Pilots were one of the biggest Alternative Rock/Grunge bands of the 1990’s, and scored hits including “Creep”, “Plush”, “Crackerman”, “Vasoline”, “Interstate Love Song”, “Big Bang Baby”, “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart” among many others. During the early 2000’s, due to drug problems of lead singer Scott Weiland, the band entered a hiatus period, they got together again during the mid to late 2000’s but soon after dismissed Weiland and replaced him with Linkin Park’s vocalist Chester Bennington. In 2015 Scott Weiland passed away aged 48. In 2017 Chester Bennington also passed away, but despite losing their two front men, Stone Temple Pilots remain together as a band. Eric Kretz turns 55 today.
