Actor Christian Slater turns 52 today
Christian Slater is one of the actors that rose to prominence during the 1980’s as a teen. Slater, that was born in New York City, New York on August 18, 1969, was one of the last members of the generation of famous actors that were called “brat pack” a play on words to the famous 1940’s and 1950’s “rat pack”. The “pack”, included names such as River Phoenix, Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore and Judd Nelson among others. All came to prominence during the 1980’s mostly through teen oriented movies. Christian Slater made his professional debut as an actor at the age of eight, on the ABC soap opera “One Life to Live”. It was during his teenage years in the mid 1980’s that he gained visibility, much due to his roles in the 1985 film “The Legend of Billie Jean”, which was actually his movie debut, and most notably in 1986 alongside Sean Connery in the blockbuster “The Name of the Rose”, followed by the 1988 Francis Ford Coppola’s “Tucker: The Man and His Dream”.
By the early 1990’s Christian Slater was an already well known name in Hollywood and started to get bigger roles in bigger productions, including “Young Guns” and “Pump Up the Volume” in 1990″, “Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves” in 1991, “The Last Rainforest” and “True Romance” in 1992. In 1993 he gained the role of the interviewer in the 1994 hit movie “Interview with the Vampire” starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Antonio Banderas, after the sudden death of his friend River Phoenix, who was originally cast and honored by donating his earnings from the film to Phoenix’s favorite charities. Other popular movies the actor starred during the 1990’s were “Broken Arrow” in 1996 and “Hard Rain” in 1998. During the 2000’s Slater’s career started to slowly go down, also much due to his well known and publicized problems with drugs and alcohol. In recent years, Slater has appeared more often on TV productions rather than movies, such as the 2015 successful series “Mr. Robot”, where he plays the title character name, alongside Rami Malek. Today Christian Slater is no longer a teenager or a “brat”, he turns 52.
