Remembering Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Tom Fogerty

Tom Fogerty, born Thomas Richard Fogerty on November 9th, 1941 in Berkeley, California founded Creedence Clearwater Revival with his brother John Fogerty in 1967 from other several bands they played together in. He composed, played rhythm guitarist and did back vocals in the band that achieved immense worldwide success during the late 60’s and early 70’s with their unique blend of country and psychedelic rock which turned them into one of the best sellers of the 60’s. During his time in Creedence Clearwater Revival they had a string of hits that became absolute Rock classics such as “Proud Mary”, “I’ve Put A Spell On You”, “Born On The Bayou”, “Bad Moon Rising”, “Green River”, “Down On The Corner”, “Fortunate Son”, “Run Through The Jungle”, “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” among many others. Creedence Clearwater Revival were a hit machine band, but Tom Fogerty’s only opportunity to see one of his original compositions included an album with the band was in 1968 on their debut self titled album with “Walking On Water”. In 1969 they play the Woodstock Festival in what was supposed to be one of the highest moments in their career but some difficulties surrounding the organization of their show left the band dissatisfied. By 1971, frustrated with the leadership of his brother John, that dominated the songwriting among other aspects of the band, Tom quits Creedence Clearwater Revival, soon after Tom left they disbanded. During the 70’s and 80’s he releases solo albums, starting by his 1972 debut “Tom Fogerty” and collaborates with other bands although without the same level of success he was used to. Tom died at age 48 of complications from AIDS on September 6th 1990. His brother John, was the only member of the band to maintain a successful solo career to this day. Tom was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
