The legendary comedian Mel Brooks turns 96

Mel Brooks was born Melvin Kaminsky in Brooklyn, New York on June 28, 1926. Brooks, who turns 94 today, is regarded as the creator of the modern broad film farces and comedic parodies. This Hollywood legend, also actor and director, had a string of hit movies, reaching the peak of his popularity during the 1970’s and 1980’s, in movies such as “Blazing Saddles”, “Spaceballs” and “High Anxiety”, but continued to produce movie hits throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s such as the 1981 “History of the World, Part I” and the successful 1993 “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”. Brooks, now 93, refuses to retire and continues to grace the audiences with his talent. In the last two decades he has given voice to animated characters of films including “Mr. Peabody & Sherman”, “Hotel Transylvania 2”, “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” and recently in 2019 “Toy Story 4”. Waiting to be release is his latest voice character in “Blazing Samurai”. Mel Brooks also led a successful TV career, being as host, creator or actor, most notably, he created the popular 1960’s TV series “Get Smart”. Brooks was honored as a recipient of the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010. In 2015 he was awarded a British Film Institute Fellowship from the British Film Institute.
