The British band 10CC signature song “I’m Not In Love” peaks to No.1 at the UK singles charts in 1975

Written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman, “I’m Not In Love” remains the British band 10CC signature song and one of the most popular Pop hits of all time. The song was released in the UK in May 1975, as the second single from the band’s album “The Original Soundtrack” and earned the band their worldwide popularity back then. Originally, the song was conceived as a bossa nova tune played on guitars only, however, with the other two members of the band, Kevin Goldey and Lol Creme (who’d become the duet Godley & Creme) disliking it, they reshaped the song into a distinctive background of multitracked vocals by the band. The song peaked to No.1 at the UK singles charts on July 1, 1975 and was also a worldwide hit, including number two on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks. An enduring hit that has benefit from airplay over the last 40 years, since it’s release, “I’m Not In Love” has played over three million plays on US radio alone. Guns N’ Roses Axl Rose cited “I’m Not In Love” as one of his favorite songs, stating that when he was a teenager it meant a lot to him. The song won three Ivor Novello Awards in 1976 for Best Pop Song, International Hit of the Year, and Most Performed British Work. Over the decades, “I’m Not In Love” has also been featured on the soundtrack of several popular movies. Another notable hit from 10CC is the 1978 reggae-style “Dreadlock Holiday”.
