John Saxon was born Carmine Orrico in Brooklyn, New York on August 5, 1935 and started his acting career during the 1950’s. By the 1960’s he progressively became one of the most popular character actors in Hollywood, but it was during the 1970’s that Saxon’s signature roles and trademark style were establishes. He co-starred with Bruce Lee in the cult martial arts film “Enter the Dragon” in 1973 and throughout the rest of the decade would play often law enforcement officials, police officers or detectives, in action and horror movies, including “Black Christmas” in 1974, “Dario Argento’s Tenebrae” in 1982 and the role that introduced him to a new generation in the Wes Craven’s horror classic “A Nightmare On Elm Street” in 1984. During the 1990’s, the actor had small roles in Wes Craven’s “New Nightmare” (1994) and “From Dusk till Dawn” (1996). On film and TV, John Saxon has worked on more than 200 projects during a span of 60 years. In recent years, he has starred in several independent movies and also TV series including “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and the Showtime series “Masters of Horror”. John Saxon passed on July 25, 2020, at age 84.
