The talented and prolific South African actress Charlize Theron turns 47



The South African actress Charlize Theron is one of the most in demand contemporary actresses, owning a career that started back in the 1990’s and already earned her several awards. She was born in Benoni, South Africa on August 7, 1975, and had gave her first steps in Hollywood during the late 1990’s, most notably by starring on leading roles in the 1997 “The Devil’s Advocate” and the 1998 “Mighty Joe Young” hit movies. During the early 2000’s her popularity rocketed when she played the critical acclaimed role of serial killer Aileen Wornos in the 2003 movie “Monster”. That role remains one of Theron’s most memorable ones and earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress, becoming that way the first South African to win that award in a major acting category. She also received another Academy Award nomination for her role in the 2005 “North Country”, but didn’t took the Oscar home that time. She received also Golden Globe Award nominations for her work in the movies “Young Adult” and also the 2018 “Tully”. For over the last two decades she has starred in hit after hit, and even extended her career to not solely actress but also producer, including the production of movies where she stars. Among her most popular movies in the last two decades are “Hancock”, “Snow White and the Huntsman”, “Prometheus”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Fate of the Furious” and most recently the blockbuster “Atomic Blonde” in 2017. More recently the prolific Charlize Theron also starred  in “The Addams Family”, “Fast & Furious 9” and “The Old Guard”. Named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2016, Charlize Theron, who also obtained American citizenship in 2007 (while retaining her South African one) turns 47 today.
