The multi-talented actor Steve Martin turns 77
A well known face from the big screen and TV, actor Steve Martin was born in Waco, Texas on August 14, 1945, and started his professional career during the late 1960’s as a writer for the popular show The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. During the late 1970’s he increased his presence on TV by appearing as a frequent guest on The Tonight Show. Steve Martin solidified his acting career during the 1980’s, by starring in several successful movies of the decade such as the 1986 “¡Three Amigos!”, directed by John Landis, acting alongside Martin Short and Chevy Chase and in “The Little Shop of Horrors” alongside Rick Moranis. By 1987, Martin was regarded mainly as a comedy actor, and in 1987 he starred in another comedy, alongside John Candy in the John Hughes’ “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”.
What would became his signature role, was the other significantly more acclaimed movie where he got the lead role, that same year, “Roxanne”, the film adaptation of “Cyrano de Bergerac” which Martin co-wrote and earned him a Writers Guild of America Award. The memorable role also finally garnered the much expected recognition from Hollywood and the public, proving he was not only a comedian. Aside of being a comedian and an actor, Martin has also worked in other artistic areas throughout his career, including author, playwright, pianist, « and banjo player. He released his first solo music album, “The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo” in 2009, and won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album adding another award to his notable career where he already has also an Emmy and an American Comedy Award. One of his latest feature movie is “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”, released in 2016 and in 2017 appeared on the music documentary “The American Epic Sessions”.
