Remembering Dimebag Darrell
Born Darrell Lance Abbott on August 20, 1966 in Arlington, Texas, Dimebag Darrell co-founded Pantera in 1981 with his brother Vinnie Paul on drums. Pantera became one of the biggest Metal bands in the world with pivotal albums such as “Cowboys From Hell” and “Vulgar Display Of Power”, becoming a key formulator of the post-thrash subgenre of “groove” metal. Despite the success, internal feud within the band left to a hiatus in 2001, disbanding officially in 2003. Darrell formed Damageplan also with his brother Vinnie Paul. On December 8, 2004, Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed at age 38 by a gunman while on stage during a performance with Damageplan. His brother Vinnie Paul passed away in 2018.
