A Brief Overlook on Richard Dean Anderson’s life and career
Thanks to the role of Angus MacGyver, Richard Dean Anderson became one of the world’s most famous actors. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 23, 1950, Anderson rose to worldwide stardom when he played the lead role in the 1980’s hit TV series “MacGyver”. The show lasted until 1992, and prior to that, Anderson starred in General Hospital, his TV debut in 1976. After the end of the series “Macgyver” he appeared in a few films including Through the Eyes of a Killer (1992), Pandora’s Clock (1996), and Firehouse (1997). In 1997 he took another memorable role in a hit TV series, “Stargate SG-1” as Lieutenant General Jack O’Neil a TV remake of the 1994 sci-fi movie “Stargate”. The show lasted until 2007, and Anderson played the lead role until 2005, making the decision of retiring to spend more time with his family. “Stargate SG-1” had several spin-offs before and after it’s end, but aside of “Stargate Atlantis” where he appeared in 4 episodes, Anderson only starred in one spin-off, the movie “Stargate: Continuum”, released in 2008. Ever since he has only appeared sporadically on TV and cinema, the actor spends much of his time with his family and dedicating to charity causes such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation, various Sclerosis Society non-profit organizations and also as a active supporter of several environmental organizations around the world and the Special Olympics. Today Richard Dean Anderson celebrates 73.
