In 1974 Lou Reed was getting infamously known for being a drug user, though he was mostly playing around with the idea rather than actually abusing drugs, he also promoted gay sex and transgenders (for example in the song “Walk On The Wild Side”).  When he got to Australia he was bombed with questions about those subjects, he handled it how he did best, sarcastically and trolling.
