Kansas original lead singer Steve Walsh was born 72 years ago today

Steve Walsh was born on June 15, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri. Walsh is one of the founding members of the 1970’s Rock band Kansas and the only original member to actually not be from the state of Kansas. The band achieved the peak of their popularity during the second half of the 1970’s with hit albums “Leftoverture” in 1976 and “Point of Know Return” in 1977. Steve Walsh sings lead on four of Kansas’ best-known hits: “Carry On Wayward Son,” “Dust in the Wind”, “Point of Know Return”, and “All I Wanted”, he also wrote the last two. After leaving Kansas in 1980 due to creative differences with the band’s primary songwriter Kerry Livgren, he released his first solo album, “Schemer-Dreamer”. His solo career didn’t reflect the same success he had with Kansas and in 1985, he returned to the band as lead singer. Walsh remained with Kansas until 2014. He released his latest solo album “Black Butterfly” in 2017 and remains an active musician, collaborating and performing with several other artists.
