In 1986 Genesis get their first and only U.S No.1 with Pop hit “Invisible Touch”

Released on 19 May 1986 as the title track and first single from the 1986 album of the same name, “Invisible Touch” by former Prog Rock band Genesis became one of their biggest hits worldwide. Though the song was light years away from Genesis Prog Rock back during the 1970’s, it introduced the band to a younger audience through it’s characteristic 1980’s Pop beat influenced by Prince and Sheila E, according to Phil Collins who has called it his “favorite Genesis song”. It became their first and only U.S No.1 when it peaked to the top of the Hot 100 on July 19, 1986. Curiously, the song was succeeded in the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 by “Sledgehammer”, performed by Genesis’ former lead singer, Peter Gabriel. The 1980’s era wasn’t too kind for the band age wise, and today, the song remains among the 1980’s decade greatest hits but without the same praise of their 1970’s Prog Rock material that has found new audiences and a cult following.
