William Dafoe was born on July 22, 1955 in Appleton, Wisconsin, U.S. The highly prolific character actor started his career during the 1970’s in theater, and in 1979 he starred on his first movie, the epic-western “Heaven’s Gate” where he played a cockfighter who works for Jeff Bridges’ character, but this supporting (not credited) role played by Dafoe ended up being cut from most of the scenes in the movie. During the 1980’s, Dafoe starred in a series of hit movies, projecting his career as a movie actor into Hollywood stardom. He got his first Academy Award Nomination for the 1986 movie “Platoon”, and later, for “Shadow of the Vampire” in 2000. More recently, he got a third nomination for the 2017 movie “The Florida Project”. Despite the fact he was never the winner of an Oscar, Dafoe has been awarded countless times around the world throughout his prolific career.
