Remembering actor and comedian Dom DeLuise
Dom DeLuise was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 1, 1933. In 1961 he got one of his first important roles on the Off-Browadway musical “Another Evening with Harry Stoons” alongside the 19 year old Barbra Streisand. His popularity as an actor and comedian peaked during the 1970’s, appearing in several comedy movies with Mel Brooks and also often co-starring Burt Reynolds with whom he worked in “The Cannonball Run” and “Cannonball Run II”, “Smokey and the Bandit II”, “The End”, “All Dogs Go to Heaven” and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. Throughout the 1980’s his popularity continued to grow and from 1991 to 1992 he became the face of the popular TV Show “Candid Camera”. DeLuise was married with actress Carol Arthur since 1964 and together they co star in several movies. The couple had three sons, the actors Peter, Michael, and David DeLuise. Dom DeLuise died of kidney failure on May 4, 2009, at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California at age 75 after a year battling cancer. He’s still remembered as one of the most prolific comedians of his generation.
