Born in Leeds, England on August 2, 1932, acclaimed and awarded actor Peter O’Toole achieved international recognition by starring in the 1962 movie “Lawrence of Arabia”, which earned him his first Academy Award nomination. This would be his first out of seven Academy Awards nominations for Best Actor without never winning one, holding the record for for the most Academy Award nominations for acting without a win, and was awarded his only Oscar in 2002, an Academy Honorary Award for his career achievements. The movies that earned him these nominations span from the 1960’s to the 2000’s, “Becket” (1964), “The Lion in Winter” (1968), “Goodbye, Mr. Chips” (1969), “The Ruling Class” (1972), “The Stunt Man” (1980), “My Favorite Year” (1982), and “Venus” (2006). Initially a stage actor, O’Toole began working in the theater, gaining recognition as a Shakespearean actor at the Bristol Old Vic and with the English Stage Company, before making his television debut in 1954 in “The Scarlet Pimpernel”. The actor reportedly refused movie roles for years despite being much in demand, and it wasn’t until the 1960’s he finally accepted to play in movies, debuting in the 1960 Disney film “Kidnapped With his performance of T. E. Lawrence in Sir David Lean’s $12 million epic “Lawrence of Arabia”, Peter O’Toole solidified his status as an international movie star, without never quit the stage. O’Toole died on 14 December 2013 at Wellington Hospital in St John’s Wood, London, at the age of 81. The last stage of his career was as successful as it has always been, playing roles in hit movies such as “Stardust”, “Troy” and “One Night With The King” among others. His last ever completed movie was “Diamond Cartel”, released posthumously in 2017.
