Rod Stewart sails to No. 1 in 1975 with “Sailing”
On September 6th 1975 Rod Stewart scores one of his biggest No. 1 hits with the song “Sailing” in the U.K charts. Originally recorded by The Sutherland Brothers in 1972, “Sailing” became a signature song by Rod Stewart, it was included on his first album to be released in the U.S “Atlantic Crossing” but it failed to top the charts there, however, it was a success in several countries around the world. Stewart, who had begun his successful solo career shortly before that after The Faces, went on to become one of the 70’s and 80’s most popular artists, releasing major classics in music history that stand to this day such as “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”, “Baby Jane”, “Tonight I’m Yours” or “Young Turks” among many others.
