The Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart turns 71
Much more than just a musician, the Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart has built a successful career also as a songwriter and producer for several decades now, while maintaining his own music projects simultaneously. But Dave Stewart, who was born in Sunderland, England on September 9, 1952, is still best known for the Eurythmics, his most successful band, with whom scored an impressive string of hits, together with Annie Lennox during the 1980’s. The band was born from the ashes of The Tourists, that he formed with Annie Lennox in 1977. At the time, the pair was romantically involved, and as The Tourists disbanded in 1980, so did their romantic relationship ended, however, continue to work together in making music and the Eurythmics were born. Songs such as “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These)”, “Here Comes The Rain”, “There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)”, “Thorn In My Side” and “When Tomorrow Comes” among many, many other songs, were part of the impressive Eurythmics career and success during the 1980’s decade and successfully transitioned to new decades and generations, most of those hits were written or co-written and produced or co-produced by Dave Stewart. Despite the success, Eurythmics disbanded in 1990, and Dave Stewart went on to form The Spiritual Cowboys, which had much less visibility than Eurythmics. The duo would reunite again twice, once in 1999, where they were able to score a new hit with “I Saved The World Today” and then again in 2005, recording two new tracks for the greatest hits package Ultimate Collection. In 2011 Stewart formed the supergroup SuperHeavy, featuring Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and A.R. Rahman, they had a hit with “Miracle Worker”. Throughout his career, Steward was awarded several times, both as a musician, a producer and songwriter. Aside of writing or co-writing and producing or co-producing all the Eurythmics albums he also co-wrote and co-produced several tracks for Mick Jagger’s 1987 album “Primitive Cool”, co-produced the album “Southern Accents” for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, as well as co-writing several songs for the album including the hit “Don’t Come Around Here No More” and the debut solo album by former Undertones lead singer Feargal Sharkey, that included the number one hit “A Good Heart”, among many others. Stewart was married for several years with Bananarama’s member Siobhan Fahey, with whom he has two children, but the couple divorced in 1996. Today, Dave Stewart’s career remains as prolific as ever, and now, at 71, age doesn’t seems to slow it down.
