“Wolverine” Hugh Jackman turns 55 today

Happy birthday to Hugh Jackman who turns 54 today. Born 12 October 1968 in Sydney, Australia,  Jackman was the youngest of five children and was raised primarily by his father. He first graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a degree in journalism and then went on to pursue acting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. That training led Jackman to a starring role in an Australian television drama, “Correlli”, in 1995. Though the show only lasted one season, he gained both experience and a new relationship. Jackman met his future wife Deborra-Lee Furness on set as she played one of his co-stars. The two married the next year and have since adopted two children, Oscar Maximilian and Ava Eliot. Best known for playing Wolverine, Jackman has been portraying the Marvel comic book character a mutant born with super-human senses and the ability to heal from almost any wound since 2000, in the film “X-men”. He has gone on to play Wolverine in six other action movies. Including the film “Logan” which was released earlier this year. Along with those related to Wolverine, Jackman has starred in several other films – “Kate and Leopold”, “Van Helsing”, “The Prestige”, “Australia” and “Les Misérables”. The latter movie, where he plays lead Jean Valjean, is an extension of his prior experience on the stage. In 2004, he won a Tony Award for his role in Broadway’s “The Boy from Oz”, and the following year, he won an Emmy Award for hosting the 2005 Tony Awards. Jackman made such an impression bringing Jean Valjean to life, he was awarded a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Academy Award. In 2017 he portrayed famed circus founder PT Barnum in “The Greatest Show on Earth”.
