Jay Siegel was born on October 20th, 1939 in Brighton Beach, New York. Siegel is mostly remembered by singing the vocals to the iconic classic Doo-Wop Pop song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” released in 1961 by The Tokens, the Doo-Wop vocal group which Jay Siegel was part of. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” was written and recorded originally as “Mbube” by South African composer and musician Solomon Linda, through The Tokens, it became a worldwide Doo-Wop Pop hit. Though it has been recorded by numerous artists over the years, The Token’s version, featuring Jay Siegel, remains the most popular one. It reached No.1 on the U.S Hot 100 and remains one of Pop Culture fans favorites through Jay Siegel’s voice.
