The Rolling Stones debut at The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 followed by a riot
Still fresh from their recent success, The Rolling Stones played the famous The Ed Sullivan Show while in the U.S for the first time. Following the steps of The Beatles, they cemented the British Invasion. The band performed two songs, “Around and Around” and “Times Is On My Side”, however a riot brook out in the studio, prompting Sullivan’s infamous quote, “I promise you they’ll never be back on our show again.” but the Stones, who were considered more “risqué” than The Beatles, went on to make a further five appearances on Sullivan’s show between 1965 and 1969, one of which, in 1967, they had to agree to change the lyrics of “Let’s Spend The Night Together” to “Let’s Spend Some Time Together”.
