In 1983 Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” changes the game for music videos
On November 21st 1983 Michael Jackson changes the game for music videos with “Thriller”. The extensive music video was filmed in the form of a short film and premiered in Los Angeles. Directed by John Landis and starring Jackson and former Playboy centerfold Ola Ray, the iconic music video had the length of 14 minutes, which was considered too long to be aired on TV and on the then recent MTV heavy rotation, however, became so successful that was often aired completely. The music video is inspired on the 1950’s and 1960’s Zombie movies, it features Jackson’s famous Zombie Dance choreography and it’s to this day considered a milestone on the music video history.
