Composed by Franke Previte, John DeNicola, and Donald Markowitz, “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, was released in 1987 as the theme song of the “Dirty Dancing” movie soundtrack. The song was initially intended for Donna Summer and Joe Esposito, but they turned it down, Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, the second choice, agreed to record the song and with the release of the film it became a worldwide hit that had a positive impact on relaunching their careers, specially Bill Medley’s that hadn’t scored a worldwide hit since The Righteous Brothers period in the 1960’s. The song, that reached No.1 in the Hot 100 on November 28th, 1987, is still one of the most frequently played songs on radio and won a number of awards, including an Academy Award for “Best Original Song”, a Golden Globe Award for “Best Original Song”, and a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
