In December 1967, The Doors were at the peak of their success, in less than a year, the L.A band reached the mainstream after their debut album “The Doors” was released in January and their second “Strange Days” in October.
During the Summer they reached No.1 with “Light My Fire”, which “fired up” their popularity, with a scheduled European tour soon to begin, the band had marked presence in several TV shows across the U.S and Canada, including the controversial Ed Sullivan Show one, and adding to that episode, earlier in that month of December, Jim Morrison was arrested on stage in New Haven. But those incidents hadn’t yet influenced their popularity, and they remained in demand for TV shows. Such was the case of The Jonathan Winters Show, that was broadcast on December 27, 1967. The band was able to perform more losely than they did on the Ed Sullian Show, as the Winter’s show had a far bigger line of acceptance for modern Rock bands and their stage antics. There they performed two songs, their hit “Light My Fire” and a single from their latest album “Stange Days”, “Moonlight Drive”. For decades, only the “Moonlight Drive” performance was included on their home video releases, “Light My Fire” only saw the light of day again through The Doors fans, and was finally officially released on their 2013 video compilation “R-evolution”
