He has been called the most underrated actor of his generation, but also one of it’s most prolific and diversified, having interpreted throughout his 40 year professional acting career some of the most memorable, charismatic and unique characters in film history. Nicolas Cage, born Nicolas Kim Coppola, achieved success by his own means without using his famous family name, Coppola. He is the nephew of acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola and cousin of the also movie directors Roman Coppola and Sofia Coppola. Raised in a catholic family, Cage is of Italian, German and Polish descent. He first came to prominence during the early 1980’s by starring in several successful movies of the decade including Rumble Fish (1983), Valley Girl (1983), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), Moonstruck (1987) and what is regarded by many as his breakthrough lead role in Raising Arizona (1987). It was though with David Lynch’s acclaimed Wild At Heart in 1990 that Cage became one of Hollywood’s top and best paid actors. During the 1990’s he appeared in some of his most famous roles in movies such as Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), Con Air (1997), Snake Eyes (1998) and City of Angels (1998), using his unique acting method, named by him as “Nouveau Shamanic” and that he keeps developing to this day. The method, which seems to work, earned him an Academy Award in 1995 for his role in Leaving Las Vegas. During the 2000’s Cage appeared in some of the biggest blockbusters of the last 20 years including Ghost Rider in 2007 and Knowing in 2009. The actor has stated several times to be Elvis Presley’s number one fan, and throughout the years accumulated valuable memorabilia of The King, and even got to “pack” the ultimate “collectors achievement” when he married Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie in 2002, but the controversial marriage ended up shortly, when the couple filed for divorce 107 days later in the same year. Prior to Lisa Marie Presley, Cage was also married with actress Patricia Arquette, he got married two more times and subsequently divorced. Over the last few years, Cage has been taking every role he can, in result of a disastrous financial management that has left him in debt with the U.S Taxes.
