Remembering Eddie Van Halen on his 69th birthday

As a band, Van Halen scored several major Rock hits during the late 1970’s and early to mid 1980’s with their classic line up featuring Dave Lee Roth on vocals. With two other talented frontmen, Gary Cherone and the non-less legendary Sammy Hagar, they went to score other hits during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Eddie Van Halen, born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on January 26, 1955, moved from the Netherlands to the United States at age 7 in 1962, and formed Van Halen with his brother Alex Van Halen in 1972. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1978, is considered one of the greatest Rock music debuts of all time, featuring several hits such as “Runnin’ with the Devil”, “Ain’t Talkin’bout Love” and Eddie Van Halen’s innovative solo track “Eruption”, which went on to influence countless guitarists throughout the years. Van Halen paved the way for the 1980’s Glam Rock, and in 1984 with the release of “1984”, they estabilish themselves as one of the biggest Rock bands in the world, thanks to songs such as “Jump” and “Hot For The Teacher”.
Eddie Van Halen also contributed to several other artists recordings, being one of the most famous examples the guitar solo in the 1982 Michael Jackson’s hit “Beat It”. Over the last 25 years, Van Halen wasn’t able to replicate the success of their early years, mostly due to internal feud amongst members of the band, despite that, the importance to Rock music history was already written in stone, and it is undeniable, despite all the controversy and less fortunate moments Eddie Van Halen passed away on October 6th 2020 at age 65 and had in his personal life and as an artist, his major influence to music in general.
