One of the most popular singers in the world, Phil Collins was born in Chiswick, Middlesex, England on January 30, 1951. Always a creative child growing up, Collins started to play drums at age 5, but aimed at becoming an actor. After completing drama school training, he appeared in various roles as a child actor, including (uncredited) in The Beatles 1964 “Hard Day’s Night” film, as a fan in the audience during the band’s live performance. In 1970 he joined the Prog-Rock band Genesis as a drummer, which went on to became one of the 1970’s most famous music acts. After several successful albums, in 1975 following the departure of Peter Gabriel, Collins became the band’s lead vocalist during the recording of their album “A Trick of the Tail” that was successfully released in 1976. In the early 1980’s Phil Collins began a solo career, scoring a string of hit songs throughout the decade. His first solo album was the best seller “Face Value”, released in 1981, featuring one of his signature songs “In the Air Tonight”. While keeping Genesis active with Pop Rock hits such as “Invisible Touch” or “Land of Confusion”, Collins kept his solo career going with two other hit albums “No Jacket Required” in 1985, and “…But Seriously” in 1989. In 1985 at Live Aid, Collins was the only performer to appear at the London concert at Wembley Stadium and the U.S. concert at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on the same day thanks to the Concorde plane speed. In Philadelphia he played drums for Eric Clapton, and drum with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page for a controversial and much criticized Led Zeppelin reunion, Page later said that Collins had not learned his parts for the set and that hurt the band’s performance that day. the first His most memorable hits during the 1980’s were “You Can’t Hurry Love”, “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)”, “Easy Lover”, “Sussudio”, “One More Night”, “Another Day in Paradise” and “I Wish It Would Rain Down”. In 1991 the Genesis returned after a hiatus of five years with the best seller album “We Can’t Dance” featuring the hits “Jesus He Knows Me”, “I Can’t Dance” and “No Son of Mine”. Turning 73 today, Collins achievements throughout his career includes eight solo studio albums that have sold and estimated 150 million worldwide making him one of the world’s best-selling artists He has received eight Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, one Academy Award, and a Disney Legend Award.
