When The Beatles played their last ever live gig together in 1969
On January 30th, 1969, The Beatles wrote another page on Rock history when during lunchtime hour went up on the rooftop of the Apple building on Savile Row, London and played their last ever live gig together. The now historical performance lasted for just 40 minutes, and during that time they played some of their new unreleased songs, a set that included ‘Get Back’, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’, ‘The One After 909’ and ‘Dig A Pony’, all from the original “Let It Be” sessions that only would be released in the following year, except for ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ released as a single in 1969. On keyboards, the band featured Billy Preston, that during that period was considered to joing the band officially and in full time, not only because of his talent but also because of the turmoil within the band who considered recording sessions were more productive and calmer when Preston was present.Traffic was brought to a standstill as the lucky small crowds of people gathered below and watched from windows in nearby buildings. John Lennon ended the performance by saying “I’d like to say ‘Thank you’ on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.” The band officially split in 1970 shortly after the release of “Let It Be”.
