Remembering Lisa Marie Presley on her birthday

Like her father Elvis Presley, she also pursued a music career, but it wasn’t music that made headlines for most of her life

Remembering Lisa Marie Presley on her birthday

The daughter of the ultimate rock legend of all time, Lisa Marie Presley was in the limelight all her life, not always for the best of the reasons. From the loss of her father at age 9, to a disastrous marriage to Michael Jackson in the 90’s, the weight of the Presley name brought her bitterness at times, and ultimately ended up in tragedy when her son Benjamin Keough, took his own life at the age of 27 in 2020, a loss that she never recovered from. In 2022 with the biopic Elvis, Lisa Marie Presley was once again in the limelight and just two days before her death on January 12th, 2023, she appeared alongside the film actor who played the role of her father, Elvis Presley, Austin Butler in the Golden Globes ceremony.

A Brief Overlook on Lisa Marie Presley’s life and career

The only daughter of Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie Presley, sometimes known as the “Princess of Rock and Roll”, was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 1, 1968. The sole heir to Elvis Presley’s estate, Lisa Marie also pursued a career in music, releasing her debut album “To Whom It May Concern” in 2003, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard 200. She collaborated with the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan for a co-written song called “Savior”, released as a B-side. But it’s not Lisa Marie’s musical talent that has made headlines for most of her life, it was her controversial relationships and marriages to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage. She first met Jackson back in the 1970’s when the singer was still part of The Jackson Five, they married in 1994, however, the marriage was seen by many as fake, and as a marketing strategy from both. They end up divorcing in 1996 citing irreconcilable differences. Later, she married the actor Nicolas Cage, who has stated several times to be Elvis Presley’s No.1 fan. She finally enjoyed a stable marriage with music producer Michael Lockwood, father of her twin girls from whom she divorced in 2021, shortly after the tragical suicide of her son Benjamin Keough at the age of 27 in 2020.  Also controversial was Lisa Marie’s association to the Church of Scientology, that she was first introduced to in 1977 by her mother, Priscilla. She officially defected from the church in 2016, after several years experiencing growing dissent with Scientology. In 1997, Lisa Marie made a video of her father Elvis Presley’s song “Don’t Cry Daddy” as a duet with The King himself, using technology that allowed a new new instrumentation and Lisa Marie’s vocals.

Lisa Marie Presley passed away at age 54 on January 12th, 2023, victim of a cardiac arrest, just less then two days after appearing in public in the 20232 Golden Globes ceremony alongside actor Austin Butler who portrayed her father Elvis Presley in the 2022 film Elvis.
