A Brief Overlook on Farrah Fawcett’s life and career
During the 1970’s the actress Farrah Fawcett became one of the most popular sex symbols in the planet, all thanks to an iconic 1976 photo that shows her in a red one-piece bathing suit. Born on February 2, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Farrah Fawcett began her career back in the 1960’s by appearing in several commercials and guest roles on TV. Her breakthrough role came in 1976 when she became Jill Munroe in the hit series Charlie’s Angels alongside Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith. Married with also actor Lee Majors, at the time she asked to be billed as Farrah Fawcett-Majors. The couple divorced in 1979 and Fawcett also left the show after one season, that had propelled all three actresses to stardom, especially her. She returned as a guest star in more six episodes during the show’s third and fourth seasons, between 1978 and 1980. Her career continued to blossom during the 1980’s, mainly as a TV actress, appearing in numerous TV series and movies, but also in the big screen. As a movie actress, Farrah Fawcett appeared in films such as Love Is a Funny Thing (1969), Myra Breckinridge 1970, Logan’s Run 1976, Sunburn 1979, Saturn 3 1980, The Cannonball Run 1981, Extremities 1986 and The Apostle in 1997 with Robert Duvall that earned her strong favorable reviews. Throughout her lifetime she was linked romantically to many men, but two stand from it, the actors Lee Majors and Ryan O’Neal, who became her on/off partner after theuy first met in 1979, and with whom she had a son, Redmon O’Neal in 1985. The iconic actress passed away on July 25, 2009, three years after she was first diagnosed with anal cancer. That same day, a giant icon also died, Michael Jackson, and because of that Fawcett’s death was largely overshadowed by media coverage of Jackson’s death. During her career, she achieved a five Emmy Award nominations and six Golden Globe Award nominations. The red one-piece bathing suit she wore in her famous 1976 poster was donated to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in 2011 on her birthday.
