Written by Dead Or Alive members including lead singer Pete Burns and former band member Wayne Hussey (that left Dead Or Alive before they hit success to form The Mission), “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” reached No.1 on March 9, 1985, on the UK singles charts. The song was part of the band’s second album “Youthquake” and produced by the hitmakers team Stock, Aitken, and Waterman and also became the first of their many No.1 Pop hits throughout the 1980’s. For some, the song defines the whole 1980’s decade, the Synth based Pop beat with the catchy chorus makes it at least one of the best modern Pop songs of all time. Dead Or Alive begun as a Post Punk/Goth band with an early dark and moody sound, but as the 1980’s went on the band switched direction drastically to a colorful dance Pop style that earned them several hits during the mid 1980’s. “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” was a worldwide hit and On the US Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at no. 11 on 17 August of 1985. The song remains one of the most air-played around the world and through several remixes have been made throughout the years, it’s the original 1985 version that remains the most popular. Lead singer Pete Burns passed away in 2016 at age 57.
